Installation Purpose
We will explore the ideal way of agriculture and forestry and society in harmony with sustainable ecosystem services *, and clarify the role of agriculture and forestry and agroforestry in the future transition to a sustainable society.
Characteristics of Education and Research
We will broaden our horizons from the conventional emphasis on productivity to the sustainability of ecosystem services, and promote education and research that connects fields and society based on the Tanashi Campus, which consists of cultivated land, green space, and forest land, in the following three research areas.
Information and Social Research Area
We will investigate the relationship between agriculture and forestry and society from the perspectives of food safety, environmental protection, and landscape formation. It is based in academic fields such as agricultural environment / information engineering and regional environmental engineering / planning.
Agriculture and Forestry Ecosystem Research Area
From the perspective of humankind's sustainable enjoyment of ecosystem services, we will investigate evaluation methods and management methods for agricultural and forestry ecosystems. It is based in disciplines such as environmental agriculture, forestry science and insect science.
Biogeochemical Cycle Research Area
We will investigate the functions of organisms and the behavior of substances in agriculture, forestry and the environment, targeting material cycles of various scales. It is based in disciplines such as crop production science, horticultural science, and landscape science.
* Ecosystem service: The function of the ecosystem that is useful for humankind. Not only agricultural and forestry production, but also the maintenance of agricultural and mountain village landscapes and urban green spaces is based on ecosystem services.
Characteristics of organizational management
Through thorough pesticide management and production history recording, we will maintain good compliance, and through thorough discussions on the organization's mission and resource allocation, and regular evaluations by outside experts, we will realize highly transparent organizational management.
